Here's something titillating I picked up at Daybreak Records on my way home from work this evening. I've been playing some of my mp3s at work before the day gets started, but I guess I should probably skip this one. 

Prolific composer Mort Garson certainly does create a sensuous and erotic moog with this experimental electronic record full of ladies' moans, groans, whimpers and sighs. Released under the name "Z," the record features a cover that's basically the equivalent of the brown paper bag adult magazines were mailed in back in the 1980s and '90s...uh, from what I've been reading in history books, I mean. 

I was hoping side two would be "the man side," but no such luck. This was recorded back in 1971, when straight men couldn't utter any sound at all during sex without risk of seeming silly.

Black Heat's second album, from 1974, is one of the super groovy things I re-discovered in my own collection while doing a little autumn LP housecleaning today to make some extra room. M & M's...mmmm. I've always loved chocolate! There's not very much info about the under-appreciated funk band Black Heat here.

Record Theatre at 1800 Main Street (there's another location further north on Main Street that I didn't get to visit) is the third record store I stopped into on my trip to Buffalo. I actually went here twice—first on my premiere day in town, then again two weeks later to pick up a $3 Inez Andrews LP that I'd stupidly passed over the first time I was there.

Filled with CDs, DVDs, books and records both used and new as far as the eye can see (I wasn't wearing my glasses), Record Theatre is a total throwback to...well, actually, a remaining holdout from, the days of the giant entertainment retailers of the 1980s—complete with vibrant neon advertising stuck to the walls inside. Wherehouse Music leapt immediately to mind the instant I stepped inside. Record Theatre does have a decent amount of used vinyl for sale, but I only turned up a few real gems after rummaging through everything they had. This sexy 1977 harp-centric Stratavarious LP is one of them. It's perfect listening for today's gloomy afternoon calm before the typhoon or hurricane or whatever it is that we're expecting to descend upon Seattle tonight at 6pm.

This record's so hot I almost burned my fingers on it while thumbing through the Latin section of my collection this afternoon. Still going strong at 63, actress/singer Laura León of Tabasco, Mexico was reportedly once going steady with porn legend Peter North, who reportedly doesn't let people touch his hair during sex because it makes him lose his concentration. 'Aprovechame!'...but hands off the hairdo.
