Debbie Cameron & Tommy Seebach

Artist: Debbie Cameron & Tommy Seebach
LP: 7" single
Song: "I See the Moon"
[ listen ]

Here's a happy little ditty from 1980 that I picked up on my trip to Norway with my sister back in 2017. "I See the Moon" has Eurovision Song Contest written all over it...which makes sense, because that's where Debbie and Tommy worked together to create pop music magic in 1979, representing Denmark on the show. Incidentally, Tommy and Debbie both had the same birthday, September 14th, though he was born nine years before she was.

Kenny Rogers [1938-2020]

Artist: Kenny Rogers with Kim Carnes
LP: 7" single
Song: "Don't Fall In Love With a Dreamer"
[ listen ]

I'm a little late with this, but wanted to pay my respects to country music legend Kenny Rogers, who passed away last month at the age of 81. Kenny was on the radio a lot when I first started listening to pop radio in Yakima, WA back in 1981. I especially enjoyed Kenny's collaborations with Dolly Parton, Sheena Easton, and this one with Kim Carnes. And, um, has anyone seen SIX PACK? I'm afraid I've never managed to set myself down in front of that one. You can read all about the life and career of this particular Mr. Rogers here

The Many Modes of Melba Moore #3

Artist: Melba Moore & Kashif
LP: 7" single
Song: "Love the One I'm With (A Lot of Love)"
[ listen ]

In Von Trapp Family Singers mode, we find Melba modeling an outfit that has obviously been crafted from a set of heavy living room drapes. "Love the One I'm With (A Lot of Love)," which went to #5 on the Billboard Hot R&B singles chart in 1986, brings this movie to mind when I stare at its cover. Melba certainly hasn't shown Kashif "A Lot of Love" here...and he's not even the one she's with! I don't understand why Melba didn't invite Kashif to join her at the more lavish photo-shoot with the fancy backdrop. It looks like his picture was taken at Sears.
