Happy New Year! I realize I'm arriving a little late with my greeting, but so much has already happened in 2021, I simply haven't had time to post anything. Our President tried to ruin our country with insidious lies, zillions of his devotees ransacked the U.S. Capitol Building with all of the country's representatives inside (while the President reportedly sat at home, watching the unfolding of events and eating popcorn), and my lovely Auntie Karen died of COVID-19. 

I know a new year is supposed to be the turning of a corner, the slate wiped clean and starting anew...but with so much smelly crap already being slung at us in 2021, I've decided to pretend that the new year begins on January 20th, with the ushering in of a new administration. Here's some music in the meantime from French-Guadeloupe artists Jacob F. Desvarieux and Georges Decimus that I hope will bring you cheer.

Here's a neat Hawaiian-rockabilly-surf-themed LP I came across in Toledo, Ohio last summer. There's no photo or information about Jonnie Aluani to be found on the web, but that might be because he doesn't really exist. Click here to visit The Atomic Attic blog where you can read about how the songs on this album have been recycled, re-packaged, and re-released by a variety of different "artists" with Hawaiian-sounding names. Even the "Hawaiian Interlude" liner notes avoid mentioning Jonnie Aluani and His Orchestra, rambling on instead about geography, the weather, the beauty of the Hawaiian Islands, and the placidity of the Polynesian people. This lively recording filled with the native songs of Tahiti—some with singing, some with only throbbing percussion—features one of the cutest fellas I've seen on the cover of any record since the release of this single back in 1983. With all the talk of gaiety in the LP liner notes, I really thought I might stand a chance with this guy... until I got to the part where it says that the people of Tahiti shun foreign imports. Oh well, it would have been tough to compete anyway with all those graceful Tahitian women running around in grass skirts with no panties on underneath.
