Lucho Gatica

Artist: Lucho Gatica
LP: Lucho In Mexico
Song: "Suffering (Sufrir)"
[ listen ]

Born in Rancagua, Chile in August of 1928, Lucho Gatica made his first record in 1949. It didn't take long before his "warm and passionate" baritone voice sent his music career up, up and away like those beautiful balloons on the front of his 1959 "Lucho In Mexico" LP. Gatica, who made Mexico City his home in 1957, conquered hearts throughout all of Latin America with his boleros bonitos, and he also enjoyed popularity in the USA, as you can read on Wikipedia here. There's lots more to learn about Lucho Gatica on his website's biography page here, and go here to see a photo of the suave, impeccably-dressed singer receiving his very own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2008. Liner notes and a photo from the back of the album are included below.

Vicente Bianchi w/ Coro Chile Canta
feat. Jaime Soval

Artist: Vicente Bianchi w/ Coro Chile Canta feat. Jaime Soval
LP: Misa a la Chilena y Otros 6 Temas Chilenos
Song: "Agnus Dei"
[ listen ]

Here's a lovely South American something for a sunny Friday morning in Seattle. Born in Santiago, Chile in January of 1920, Vicente Bianchi began studying piano when he was just six years old. He went on to study music and lead orchestras in Argentina and Peru before returning to Chile in 1955, at which time he began composing a series of songs called "Music for the History of Chile" with popular Chilean poet Pablo Neruda. You can read about Vicente Bianchi's life and his musical career that spans eight decades (so far) here and here, and find more info and photos on Bianchi's official website here. Links to Spanish-language versions of these sites can be found here, and the Spanish-language liner notes from the "Misa a la Chilena" LP, which was evidently released in either 1965 or 1968, are included below.

Los Hermanos Arriagada

Artist: Los Hermanos Arriagada
LP: El Trio del Exito
Song: "Dulce Monica"
[ listen ]

Omar, Mario, and Jorge are Los Hermanos Arriagada—who sorta' look like a trio of South American Humphrey Bogarts, if you ask me. Originally from a town called Cañete in southern Chile, The Arriagada Brothers' popularity spread throughout South and Central America as well as into Mexico and Spanish-speaking parts of the USA like New York City, Los Angeles, and Miami. You can read about Los Hermanos Arriagada here in Spanish and in English here. The Spanish-language notes from the back of their LP are included below along with a photo of the Arriagadas where, admittedly, they don't look as much like Bogart as they do in the picture above.
