If I'm going to post songs from someone's Agustín Lara tribute album, then I should probably also post something from the legendary Mexican singer/songwriter/pianist himself. Born in Mexico City in 1897, Lara got his start playing in a brothel when he was just 13 years old. He went on to compose hundreds of popular songs, including such classics as "Noche de Ronda," "Granada," and "Veracruz." He contributed music to many classic Mexican films and in 1946 he married actress María Félix, though the marriage only lasted a year. You can find an extensive biography on Agustín Lara here, see a long list of singers who have performed his songs here, and the Spanish-language notes and a photo from the back of this self-titled 10" EP are included below. Side A features instrumental tracks with Agusín Lara on piano, whereas the songs on side B have him singing along, so I've included one of each.
