According to what I found on the Let's Learn French Together blog here, Dato "Shake" Shake was born in Malaysia and, as a young garçon, he wanted nothing more than to become a famous chanteur. His family couldn't convince him to do anything else, so they shipped him off to Europe, where he had a string of hits and became the toast of the continent—and Canada too!
