Rick Springfield

Artist: Rick Springfield
LP: 7" single
Song: "Jessie's Girl"
[ listen ]

This one has been stuck in my head all afternoon. But I've changed the lyrics to make it a song about gay longing—about confusion and unrequited homoerotic desire.

Jessie is a friend, yeah I know he's been a good friend of mine
But lately, something's changed. That ain't hard to define
Jessie's got himself a girl and now I wanna' make him mine

And he's watching her with those eyes
And he's lovin' her with that body, I just know it
Yeah 'n' he's holding her in his arms late, late at night

You know, I wish that I was Jessie's girl
I wish that I was Jessie's girl
Why did he find a woman like that?

I play along with the charade
There doesn't seem to be a reason to change
You know, I feel so dirty when they start talkin' cute
I wanna' tell him that I love him, but the point is prob'ly moot

'Cause he's watching her with those eyes
And he's lovin' her with that body, I just know it!
And he's holding her in his arms late, late at night

You know, I wish that I was Jessie's girl
I wish that I was Jessie's girl
Why did he find a woman like that?
Tell me!

[ Where can I find a bunny like that? ]
